Innovate 2011 conference kicks in
Wednesday, 12 October 2011Innovate 2011 - the developer conference where eBay, PayPal and Magento will reveil their secrets on the new X.Commerce platform has just kicked in. Already within an hour, exciting news hits the ground: An analytics program of Adobe, PayPal Access, Kenshoo integration, a new MagentoConnect and much much more.
We're not there, boehoe
But first of all, we're not there to witness it. Instead, we're sitting at home behind our laptops - wathing the live-streams and twitter-storm #Innovate2011 - and getting the news from others. We're feeling bad about not being there, but the news reaches us nonetheless.
PayPal Access
One of the exciting new features is PayPal Access - kind of a Facebook Connect authentication method, but one that will be integrated into any Magento shop (and easily in any other webapplication). PayPal Access allows users to signin to their PayPal account and link their stored information (profile, shipping address, etcetera) with the shop: No more annoying entering of address-details, no more selecting of shoe-sizes, it's all done for you. We're eager to try out PayPal Access on our websites, and perhaps integrate it with MageBridge as well.
A new MagentoConnect
Roy Rubin popped up on stage to introduce a new MagentoConnect platform as well. Note only will Magento Go apps be part of the connect-site as well, but the new platform will offer exciting new features for extension-developers and site-owners as well: Customers will be able to purchase extensions online with MagentoConnect (I'm not sure yet how us extension-developers get our money) and the newly purchased Magento extension will become instantly (!) available within the Magento application as well. Very cool.
Other cool things are a new Adobe site catalyst tool for Magento Enterprise (?), exportation of Magento products to eBay, and the availability of OpenGraph-data (used by Facebook) within the Magento application. In the next few days, numerous presentations will be held to elaborate on all these exciting new features. We'll stay tuned.
