Tests of MageBridge with alpha versions
Saturday, 24 October 2009It might be exciting or not: We have tested MageBridge with Magento 1.4 Alpha 3 (which was released about a week ago) and did not experience any kind of trouble. This would suggest that the migration of Magento 1.3 to 1.4 for MageBridge-customers could be done without much hassle.
We have also started to make MageBridge compatible with Joomla! 1.6 Alpha. The new version of Joomla! will in the end include things like ACLs and architectural changes in the XML-RPC server. This means that the current version of MageBridge does not work on Joomla! 1.6, and we will need to make dramatic changes to the MageBridge code to make it work on Joomla! 1.6.
However, we still have time as the work of the Joomla! Core Team on ACLs still has to be finalized. Some ACL-elements are already in place, but are different than the (very basic) ACL-rules we placed ourselves inside MageBridge under Joomla! 1.5. To bypass this problem we added a simple check for either Joomla! 1.5 or Joomla! 1.6 to make sure the right ACL-code is executed.
Other changes to make MageBridge compatible with 1.6 are still pending, for instance the new XML-RPC procedures and plugins. These require more difficult changes with which we will only start if Joomla! 1.6 Stable nears its completion.
