Migrate to K2 and ZOO using Dynamic404

Tuesday, 27 April 2010

Joomla! content is limited when you want to add specific information over-and-over again: With articles, adding a picture every time again in exactly the same position is still possible, but if you need to add JavaScript, extra HTML-layouts or even forms to your content, it is much smarter to move to a CCK like ZOO, K2 or FLEXIcontent.

Moving to Content Construction Kits

Migrating your content to a CCK (Content Construction Kit) is troublesome. K2 includes a button to import your Joomla! content, but I don't know about the others (FLEXIcontent and ZOO). But this only takes care of one thing: Moving the content from the Joomla! database tables to the CCK database tables.

Solving 404s using the plugins of Dynamic404

What is still left, is that the old Joomla! URLs might get 404s. One way to solve this is to write your own htaccess-rules but this is more for the gurus than the average user, and even for the guru this is time-consuming. Another way is to buy Dynamic404 for 20 Euro, install it, install the right Dynamic404 plugin (for K2, ZOO or FLEXIcontent) and be done with it.

Once a 404-error occurs, Dynamic404 will catch that error: Instead of showing the user an ugly 404-page, Dynamic404 will search the database for possible matches and redirect to the best possible match. By installing the ZOO and K2 plugins for Dynamic404 (all available on our site), the new ZOO and K2 content will also be included for possible matches. By default, this will ensure all your original Joomla! content-pages are automatically redirected to their corresponding new content-pages.

Our customers consider Dynamic404 a vital tool for migrating content to ZOO, K2 or FLEXIcontent.
