First day of JD10nl
Friday, 23 April 2010Today the first day of the Joomla!Days 2010 in the Netherlands took place. The day was filled with nice presentations and besides the chance of the Joomla! crowd to meet up with one-and-another, the day also offered enough for newcomers.
MageBridge in 45 minutes
Known speakers during the day were Fotis Evangelou (K2), Hannes Papenberg (Joomla! core team), Brian Teeman, Mathias Verraes and Johan Janssens (Nooku) - and next to these higher gods, our own Jisse Reitsma had the time to talk a bit on MageBridge as well.
Our Yireo MageBridge solution has grown bigger in its first year - much bigger than could be explained within 45 minutes. Because of the tight schedule, the presentation could only cover the basics: Like which extensions are part of the MageBridge suite, the logic of integrating Magento into Joomla!, the reasons why and a small demonstration of how MageBridge works:
One of the best ways to demonstrate the power of MageBridge is how you can add a Menu-Item pointing to a Magento product or Magento category: Such a thing is not possible with VirtueMart (because it's lacking in MVC-architecture) and is only possible with XML-programming in Magento. But actually it's only one of the minor features of MageBridge.
It's Magento
One thing we have to be humble with, is that MageBridge offers a full bridging solution between the best CMS and the best e-commerce application out there, but it's still only a bridge: The real credits go to Magento and Joomla!. On this Joomla! event, the approach was: If you want to add e-commerce to Joomla!, which package gives the best solution: VirtueMart, Tienda or Magento.
While for simpler shops VirtueMart and Tienda are fine, for more complex jobs Magento is the key: Whoever tries to put up a website with 2 million products with VirtueMart is insane. Magento offers clustering capabilities, better attribute-management, and is basically the right tool for anyone who wants to let their e-business grow without getting stuck because of wrong software decisions.
MageBridge is just bringing this powerful tool to Joomla!.
Tomorrow is another JD10NL day
