Magento Professional is released
Thursday, 20 May 2010Yesterday (19th of May 2010) the new Magento Professional Edition was released - this fills in a gap between the free community edition and Magento Enterprise Edition: Less Enterprise-features for a good price.
Features of the new Professional Edition
The features of the new Magento Professional Edition (PE) are coming straight out of the Enterprise-package, but because some features of Magento Enterprise Edition (EE) were not needed in any many cases (Private Sales, staging, Solr-support), the new Magento PE version gives a nice alternative.

Customer Rewards
The most important features in which Magento PE differs from the Magento Community Edition (CE) are related to rewarding customers. Magento PE ships with gift certificates, store credits and reward points - three features that highly related to each other and are proven ways to increase sales.
Support
Also important to note is that with Magento EE, support is delivered straight by Varien itself (the company behind Magento), but with Magento PE this is not the case. There's no SLA with Varien, so all the support boils down to either community-support or support by a specific Magento partner.
