MeetMagento NL 2010 a success
Saturday, 29 May 2010On Wednesday 26th of May the second MeetMagento event in The Netherlands took place. Made possible by the official Dutch community Dutchento and a team of volunteers, this Dutch Magento event was a great success with over 240 people attending the event.
Meet the Magento people
The event was a great opportunity to learn more on Magento, but also to shake hands with the creators of Magento (no longer called Varien, but Magento Inc.) and various Magento-oriented companies. Yoav Kutner (technical manager of Magento) and Tim Schulz (among others responsible for MagentoConnect) gave a presentation, but also the main Magento developer Dimity Soroka was there to explain more on the technical details of the Magento architecture.
The day was filled with good presentations on marketing, SEO, performance and development. Jira ICT (founders of Yireo) was present as well: Both as sponsor, as speaker and as part of the organization.
Security
At the end of the day co-founder Ray Bogman came running up on stage wearing a mask to add a few words on security. During the day he had setup an unsecured wireless network, and various people made a connection to it without thinking about the security aspects of that. Another example of insecurity was the fact that he was able to login to a well-known Magento website (good for a revenue of 600.000+ dollars) with just a demo-password. This proves that security is still a lot of times forgotten.
The day was a great success and we look forward to MeetMagento 2011.
