MageBridge patch for YOOtheme Mellow

While we have already been supplying RocketTheme template patches for some time, combining MageBridge with a YOOtheme template still was not a ready-to-go solution. With the coming of our YOOtheme Mellow template-patch this comes to an end. We have begun to patch various YOOtheme templates, so they look smooth when combined with a Magento shop.

CSS challenges

Both the default Magento Theme as the YOOtheme Mellow template are based on divs, and because they have different opinions on how a div-tag should behave, an out-of-the-box combination does not work properly: Product-pages are distorted, floating boxes are not aligned properly, colors of the Joomla! template are applied to places where they shouldn't. The only way to fix this, is by editing CSS-code which is hard to understand for a novice.

With our MageBridge template-patches this comes to an end. Adding the MageBridge component to your Joomla! site is easy, and by following the right procedure you have a Magento shop running in no time. No, also theming becomes a lot easier, because with our MageBridge patch for the YOOtheme Mellow template everything just works and looks nice. The only thing you have to do, is apply our patch to the original YOOtheme Mellow template (purchased from the YOOtheme website).

MooTools conflicts

Besides CSS, another challenge is JavaScript. The JavaScript used by Magento (ProtoType) conflicts with the JavaScript used by YOOtheme (MooTools). The future might bring an end to that, now that MooTools 1.2 will be integrated in the Joomla! CMS soon - YOOtheme has already announced that they will start integrating MooTools 1.2 into their templates as soon as it arrives.

But until than, it's a limitation. The conflict is easily solved by configuring MageBridge to remove all conflicting JavaScript, but this will cripple various MooTools-based extensions. The best thing here is to choose your Joomla! extensions carefully: A shop-page should be about selling and not about too many dancing little gadgets - so with proper planning the MooTools-conflict never feels like a major problem, just a small hubble along the road.
