SimpleLists version 1.5.1.8 is out
Monday, 31 August 2009Today we released a new version of the Joomla! 1.5 component SimpleLists. Version 1.5.1.8 does not offer bring much news in the frontend, but the backend and underlying architecture contains major improvements. Upgrading is easy - just hit the Upgrade button.
What is SimpleLists?
SimpleLists is a flexible tool to manage content with. It allows for building "simple lists" of small content-items that can point to various other places. Each item can contain a link, a picture and various other tools. While the same could be accomplished using regular Joomla! plugins, SimpleLists focusses on the ease of management: All items can be maintained separately.
Also, because the item picture is separated from the text, this allows for creating uniform layouts in the frontend. SimpleLists ships with several layouts that range from basic listings to fancy JavaScript-based effects. While many people use SimpleLists because of these nice effects, the main benefit of SimpleLists is that it allows you to quickly add entries without worrying about the layout.
What's new: Link plugins
One of the biggest changes is that the Item Link is now managed through plugins. Not only allows this for customizing which links-forms should appear in the backend, but it also allows for the easy addition of new plugins. Examples of this new plugin architecture are also included in this version: You can now easily create a link to a Community Builder profile or a Vimeo video. The Vimeo plugin actually shows another new feature: Instead of creating just a list, SimpleLists now also adds item-pages (standalone pages for a single item), which is used to display the Vimeo plugin.
