Next level templating with MageBridge

Templating with MageBridgeTM is a bit more complicated than usual: You have to deal with module chromes, page assignments and empty blocks. We have made a PHP-class MageBridgeTemplateHelper available which helps you accomplish these tasks using simple and understandable PHP-code.

Checkout the MageBridge Template Helper guide for more information.

Content Plugin in MageBridge

One of the features requested by the public was a Content Plugin for usage with MageBridgeTM. We took a long look at the existing architecture and finally decided to build a Content Plugin which is both fantastic as simple in its architecture.

Checkout our tutorial which explains how to use MagentoTM Markup Tags within Joomla!TM content.

Revolutionary in Magento, basic stuff in Joomla!

One of the new features of MageBridgeTM 1.2 is a Joomla!-based module that shows Magento products in various ways. It allows you to display a sidebar of products, configurable through the parameters of the module, without you knowing anything of Magento theming. Such a functionality is revolutionary in MagentoTM, but it's actually basic stuff in Joomla!TM.

Hiding conflicting JavaScript with MageBridge

A very small thing that has been improved in MageBridgeTM version 1.2 is the way to remove conflicting JavaScript-files. The whole deal of removing conflicting JavaScript-files is a neccessary evil we have to live with: The MooTools-framework of Joomla!TM is conflicting with the Prototype-framework of Magento. But this removal should above all work properly, otherwise perhaps your MagentoTM checkout might not function properly.

Selling a single product

To sell only one product on ones website is a practice that becomes increasingly populair - mostly it is a solid marketing strategy. Of course selling a single product is possible using our favorite e-commerce system - Magento - but what about cross-selling and background information? Let's take a look at MagentoTM, but also at our MageBridgeTM integration with Joomla!TM to see what tools are available.

For instance the Search Plugin adds MagentoTM products to the Joomla!TM search, but MageBridgeTM also allows for tagging to integrate the two types of content (products and articles).

World-writable permissions in Magento

When installing Magento, you place the setup-files in the proper directory of your webserver. But in many cases it's also wise to check the ownership and permissions on all the files. For instance 666 is evil and 777 is far too much. Also it is easiest to keep the ownership of all files to the webserver-user. But what if MagentoTM places new files, for instance when installing new modules?

Plugging things into MageBridge

Last week MageBridgeTM version 1.1 was released bringing multi-lingual features to the bridge. Multi-lingual components like Joom!Fish and Nooku were connected to MagentoTM stores (either Store Groups or Store Views), but this logic was introduced through so-called store connectors.

Canonical URLs and Joomla!

In the world of search engines, duplicate content is always a big problem. Search engines need to determine which websites are useful to users and which are not, and one of the ways to accomplish this is to check for duplicate content.

A site with a lot of duplicate content is considered to be spamming the visitor, but sometimes duplicate content is created without the webmaster knowing.
