How flexible is it?
Migrating products from VirtueMart to Magento can be very easy with Vm2Mage. Hitting the "Migrate" button will start a nice graphical migration-process of all your products, categories and customers.
While being easy to use, Vm2Mage still offers enough flexibility to migrate VirtueMart in different ways: By making the right selections, you can migrate your store in parts or as a whole, to one Magento store or different stores. It just depends what you configure. Our tutorials will guide you in this process.
Does Vm2Mage migrate everything?
We try to migrate things as best as we can, but for some things we need to be realistic. Sometimes a migration just does not make sense.
For instance, VirtueMart ordernumbers have a different format than Magento ordernumbers. Migrating old orders to Magento and then changing the ordernumber, is forbidden in bookkeeping terms. Instead, Vm2Mage places the old orders in a seperate database table, so it doesn't become part of the Magento ordering system, but customers can still access their older orders.
Another problem concerns old VirtueMart configurations, where products with different prices per different attribute are not stored under different SKUs. Magento requires seperate SKUs (within a Configurable Product), so one-on-one migration is impossible. In this case, it might be better to migrate manually instead of using Vm2Mage.
What? Is Magento better than VirtueMart?
Some people think so, and for those people, Vm2Mage was developed. We share this opinion, but this is our personal opinion and there is no need to discuss this.
What kind of tax do you charge?
The tax that is charged for our Yireo extensions is dependent on the address details you enter during checkout. People from outside the EU are not charged any tax at all, but this is only apparent during the checkout.
For people within the EU, the situation is a bit complicated: We charge you tax, even though there is a EU regulation that excludes businesses from paying tax. Because tax should still be paid in European business-to-consumer transactions, the EU has setup very strict rules regarding the checking of tax-numbers and book-keeping.
Unfortunately we have concluded it is nearly impossible to implement these strict rules. Therefor we will charge tax - regardless whether it's a B2B or B2C transaction: Correctly said, we do not reckognize B2B transactions within the EU, we all treat them as B2C transactions because we are unable to confirm that it's a B2B transaction. We do not make exceptions in this. However, you can deduct the paid tax through your local tax agency. See the European Commission site for more information, or contact your local tax agency for instructions.
I paid for Vm2Mage. Can I get a refund?
The Vm2Mage software is actually available for such a low cost that our administrative costs for handling the order at first almost succeeds this price. Therefor we do not offer refunds for the Vm2Mage Standard edition. If you have purchased the Vm2Mage Professional edition and we have given you no support at all, a refund is in place. But if you have received already support, a refund is not possible.
Only with our Vm2Mage Install Service, it is possible to get a refund. With this service, we will check together with you if a migration makes sense. If not, you'll get a refund.
Why pay for Vm2Mage?
In our Yireo Shop, you can find different Vm2Mage products. The actual Vm2Mage extensions is available against a very low price (Vm2Mage Standard), but if you want our professional support, you need to purchase one of our other products. While Vm2Mage is open-source, there has been put over 200 hours of work to make it work. We find the price of Vm2Mage Standard fair enough, while asking extra funding for extra help.
How much is Vm2Mage worth?
While Vm2Mage is available for only 20 Euro, it doesn't mean that it is not worth anything. We have put over 200 hours of development into this tool. This does not include the time to actually migrate data from VirtueMart to Magento, but the time to write the actual code, the time to test things under various circumstances and the time to create an user interface that you can understand.
How this time effort translates to financial value, depends on too many things to make sense. But it's fair to say that the price we ask for the commercial services are peanuts compared to the amount of work put into the software.
Is Vm2Mage open source?
All our software is open source - including Vm2Mage - and we do not use any kind of encryption (ionCube, Zend Optimizer). The source code of Vm2Mage is spread out over two platforms (Joomla! and Magento) and is therefor licensed under two different licenses: GNU/GPL (for Joomla!) and OSL (for Magento).
Installable packages are only supplied to paying customers.
On how many sites can I use Vm2Mage?
You can use Vm2Mage on an unlimited number of sites and unlimited times. The software does not require a license key.
Do I get updates?
Every paying customer gets unlimited access to Vm2Mage updates. While we play not to add that many software features, bugs may always arise and will be fixed. Once you buy Vm2Mage, you also get the right on any update that Vm2Mage may get.
Is Vm2Mage compatible with Joomla! 1.6?
Currently it is not, and it sounds actually silly to put a lot of work into this. VirtueMart is not yet available in Joomla! 1.6, and the number of websites that use Joomla! 1.6 plus VirtueMart and that need to be migrated to Magento is practically zero. While we have made a huge effort to migrate all our other Joomla! extensions to Joomla! 1.6, with Vm2Mage we make none (for now).
Is Vm2Mage compatible with Magento 1.5 or higher?
Yes, but you can not use the MagentoConnect keys for this. You will need to manually upload all files to Magento and refresh the cache afterwards. Check our Vm2Mage downloads section for all files.
