MageBridge 1.6 for Joomla! 1.6
Friday, 25 February 2011Sneaky: We released MageBridge 1.6 already last week, finishing off the compatibility with Joomla! 1.6 and Magento 1.5. But we were not ready yet to release all the information (release notes, changelog, this blog), so kept it quiet: But here it is: MageBridge 1.6. Finally.
It took some time ...
It took some time, but the work is done. While MageBridge 1.5 was released over 6 months ago, this major 1.6 release took some time to be finished off. Early January 2011, Joomla! 1.6 appeared, and while we are able to run MageBridge visually within Joomla! 1.6 within a few weeks, there was still a lot more work to do:
One of the difficult tasks was the rewriting of the MageBridge Event Forwarding API (which sends Magento events to Joomla! and vice versa) which was based so far on XML-RPC. But XML-RPC support was withdrawn in Joomla! 1.6, and instead of reintroducing this, we decided to rewrite our API to use JSON-RPC instead.

See the MageBridge 1.6 Release Notes for a listing of all the new features. What's next? Well, we will revise the roadmap for Joomla! 1.7 a bit, but the main points are already there.
