Yireo reborn

Last months we have worked hard, but finally - a new site. The Yireo site has a fresh new look, and we hope the clean interface allows you to browse our pages even better. As a developer, keeping your own site up-to-date is always the hardest part, but we aimed even a bit higher: We wanted to include state-of-the-art technology so we could share the knowledge again with you.

So what's the new stuff?

First of all, the new design is built mostly using CSS3 elements - server-side fonts, radius-corners, gradients. This one of the hard decisions, as older browsers are incompatible with a lot of the new gadgets. To make things cross-browser we had to do a lot of work twice: One time with the new CSS3 feature, another time with an older technique. It was a bit hardcore, because even a FireFox 3.5 browser was outdated. 

Besides webtechniques, we also focussed on new Joomla! developments. Our forum is migrated from phpBB to Ninjaboard (which is at the moment still in a beta-stage), and our content migrated from Joomla! core to FLEXIcontent (beta). We even replaced our Magento Downloadable Products with FLEXIcontent items protected using the additional FLEXIaccess extension (also beta).

Documenting what we did

We have already released two blogs with some backgrounds on what we changed on our site. This might be very useful if you're building a website yourself using similar tools. Because there is a lot more to discuss, we will post new blogs about the Yireo changes upcoming weeks.

Labs are upcoming

Using all this beta-software gave a lot of headaches, but also a lot of knowledge. We intend to share this knowledge with you, so while the main new site is already live, we are working on a new labs-section, which will contain experimental modules and plugins we have created for our own but that could still be useful for you.
