Related products with the Joomla! Tags component

The MageBridge Content Tagging plugin (magebridgetags) is able to display related Magento products for a certain Joomla! article, and uses tags to relate products to articles. However, it does not ship with its own tagging system. Instead it uses other tagging systems. In this tutorial you will see how you can use this plugin together with the Joomla! Tags component.

The Joomla! Tags component is a free extension that allows you to add tags for specific Joomla! articles. From within the Joomla! Administrator you can browse to the main Joomla! Tags screen, and from there it is possible to manage existing tags.

When editing an article a Tags-button is added below the article text, allowing you to easily add tags to an individual article. All tags are saved to the Joomla! database.

MageBridge Content Tagging

The MageBridge Content Tagging plugin can be enabled to add a list of Magento products to the bottom of a Joomla! article. This list is generated through the usage of Magento tags. As soon as the MageBridge Content Tagging plugin is enabled, for each article tags are fetched and the MageBridge API is used to fetch Magento products corresponding these tags.

In Magento, you will need to enable the Tag-module included in the Magento core. Unfortunately Magento only allows you to add tags to a product from the frontend, not the backend. See the Magento forums for information on this issue.

The example above shows the bottom of a Joomla! article. Between the article text and the article data, the content of two plugins is inserted: The Joomla! Tags plugin and the MageBridge Content Tagging plugin. Both plugins work independant of each other, so can be enabled or disabled as you like.

Configuring the MageBridge Content Tagging plugin

There is little configuration needed. The MageBridge Content Tagging plugin needs to fetch tags for a specific article, and by default it uses the META-keywords to gather tags. But through the plugin parameters you can easily reconfigure the plugin to make use of the Joomla! Tags component.

Once the plugin is enabled, it will try to collect tags for the shown article. If tags are available, these tags are sent in an API-request to Magento to get the corresponding products.
